Prof. Dr. Alexander Braun has received funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the German Research Foundation (DFG) for the Weave project «Inefficiencies in the Supply of Catastrophe Risk Capital».

Together with Prof. Dr. Niklas Häusle from Leipzig University and Prof. Dr. Markus Huggenberger from the University of St.Gallen, they examine how catastrophe risks are transferred from primary insurers to reinsurers and cat bond investors. The project investigates how market frictions, capital inefficiencies and structural barriers affect the cost and availability of catastrophe risk capital.

Over the next 34 months, the research team aims to generate practical insights into how catastrophe insurance can become more efficient, affordable and widely accessible in the context of increasing climate-related natural disasters.
