With great sadness, we inform you of the passing of Prof. Dr. Nadine Gatzert last Friday.

Nadine Gatzert studied at the University of Ulm and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where she obtained a diploma in Mathematical Finance and Actuarial Science, as well as a master’s degree in Mathematical Finance.

From 2005 onwards, she worked as a project manager and research assistant at our institute. She completed her doctorate in 2007 and her habilitation in 2009 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hato Schmeiser.

In 2009, at the age of 29, she became Germany’s youngest full professor, making a significant impact on our field in many ways, particularly in the areas of life insurance and enterprise risk management. For almost 17 years, she held the Chair of Insurance Economics and Risk Management at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg.

Through IVW-HSG continuing education programmes, joint research projects, and her role as a lecturer at the University of St.Gallen, Nadine remained closely connected to us.

With her passing, we have lost an exceptionally positive and warm-hearted colleague and friend. We will cherish many fond memories of her and are deeply grateful for the time we were able to spend together.

Our deepest sympathies go out to her husband and their two sons.
