The article, co-authored by Prof. Dr. Alexander Braun, Niklas Häusle (both I.VW-HSG), and Paul D. Thistle (University of Nevada), discusses on-demand insurance, an innovative business model that offers coverage for episodic risks. It makes use of a simple fact in a practical way: People differ in their frequency of exposure as well as the probability of loss. The extra dimension of heterogeneity can be used to screen the insured. The authors show under which conditions on-demand insurance improves efficiency and allocations in the insurance market.
